APRIL 1994 - What to do first? Well, pull the engine, of course! Actually, I spent some time cleaning it up, removing and cataloging various parts prior to this. I found a pair of high-back seats from a later Spit, and figured I might be able to use them. Nice to have a forklift handy... This is a long term project, so there's no rush - yet! |

The engine was set aside, while I tackled the transmission first - new synchro rings & seals throughout. The cluster was in good shape as well as all the shafts & other parts. New lay gear bushes were needed. All parts were washed, some were sandblasted & refinished. At this same time, I sent the bare frame and suspension pieces out to be blasted and powder coated. |
| The suspension pieces were all
reassembled, while the rear-end was cleaned and put back together with
all new seals. Of course, I was forced to spring
for a new set of Koni's all around! Notice the rear leaf spring -
it's got an extra leaf in it ( the long one with the rounded-off end, instead
of the taper) and it was de-arched about 4.5"

Front suspension got all new bushes, as well as springs and rebuild of the brake system, which included new hoses. New tie rod ends, as well as front wheel bearings and seals. |

After reassembly, I found a pretty good bonnet locally, so I had to try it out, of course. Next I wanted to tackle the motor - 1147 cc's (70 cu. in.) of pure high-rev fun! Check out page 3... |
