2002 Vinha Velha:
A blend of Portuguese grape varieties
traditionally used for Port, this dry table wine is a new product
for Ficklin Vineyards. With ripe blueberry, blackberry and cherry
in the nose and palatte, it truly exhibits the bountiful fruit and
earthy structure of these grapes. 65% Tinta Madeira, 30% Touriga
Nacional and 5% Tinta Cao. (750 ml.)
Aged 15 Years Tawny Port, Lot No. 2:
Tawny Ports spend their
entire lives in wood barrels, and consequently, during the first several
years of aging, the rich, deep garnet hue is lost and the wine
develops a “tawny” color. The slow process of wood aging and
evaporation creates an unmatched intensity of flavor and character.
This tawny port consists of wines blended from the 1984 through the
1989 vintages, each with a minimum fifteen years of barrel age. (375 ml.)
1983 Vintage Port:
Bottled in May of 1987, the 1983 now has
17˝ years of bottle age. It has been cellared and aged inside the
original adobe building where conditions remain dark, cool and constant.
Complexity and softness dominate the palate, with layers of dark fruit,
smoke and leather in both flavor and aroma. Recently re-corked, it is
ready to enjoy now, or it will continue to age and develop slowly with
proper storage. As always with most older ports, the wine has formed
some sediment so decanting will be necessary. (750 ml.)
