1983 Vintage Port:
Bottled in May of 1987, the 1983 now has a full 16 years of bottle age, where complexity and softness dominate the palate. Aged inside the original adobe building where temperatures remain cool and constant, layers of dark fruit flavors and smoke and leather aromas have slowly developed. Recently recorked, it is ready to enjoy now, or it will continue to age and develop slowly, under proper storage conditions. Of course, with the extended bottle age, the wine has dropped some sediment, so decanting will be necessary.
Tinta Port - Library Release:
About 7 years old when cellared, this wine was selected from the family library exclusively for PORTfolio Society members. Bottled in 1996, this wine shows the subtleties of flavor attained with patience and a full decade of bottle age. Although the flavors won’t develop to the fullness of a true Vintage Port, this limited release shows the softness and vintage-like character that only extra bottle age will allow.
Aged 15 Years Tawny Port:
Unlike Vintage Ports, which develop their character from extended time in a bottle, Tawny Ports spend their entire lives in wood barrels. During the first several years the rich, deep garnet hue is lost and the wine develops a “tawny” color. The slowed process of wood aging and evaporation creates an intensity of flavor and character. This Tawny Port consists of wines blended from the 1984 through the 1987 Vintages, each with a full fifteen years of barrel age. 375 ml.
