This is a classic set comprising three special wines that exemplify the Ficklin style, and help to commemorate our 60th anniversary. Ficklin was founded on the solera aging of the Old Vine Tinta Port, grew with the release of special bottling Vintage Ports, and hit stride with the barrel aged Tawny Ports. We are proud to offer these limited release wines for you to enjoy, share and savor.
Tinta Port - Library Release:
Lots of bottle character is beginning to show in this special Port. Fragrance and flavors are intricate, intriguing and beguiling. Butterscotch, maple and toffee aromas are layered with the subtleties of the fruit. Complexity of flavor is intertwined with a soft & silky texture, hints of coffee as well as a lingering mouth-feel and finish. A sip of this is the warm blanket on a cool evening, completely enveloping the palette. Laid down in our cellar in April 2002, this Tinta Port was selected from the family library exclusively for PORTfolio Society members. It is ready to drink now. Only 670 bottles available. (750 ml.)
1988 Vintage Port:
This Vintage Port features the fruit of the Tinta Madeira grape, which comprises 70% of the blend. Touriga (17%), Souzao (12%) and Tinta Cao (1%) were added to build the wine’s structure and enhance its full array of flavors. Dominant earthy and leather aromas open to dried blackberry and fig. The lush flavors of plum, blackberry and dark cherry intertwine with a balanced structure, showing softness from extended bottle age. Underlying tones of toffee, chocolate, and honey contribute to the subtle complexity and changes as the wine opens in the glass. Bottled in January 1991 and re-corked in 2005 this Vintage Port is ready to drink now. There are only 900 bottles available of this special selection from our library at this time. (750ml)
Aged 20 Years Tawny Port:
The aromas are enough to satisfy alone - butter and caramel layers wrap and envelop the fruit with hints of wood on the edges. A mouth filling experience that’s thick and rich, with an enticing mahogany color and lingering, chewy finish. Hints of homemade caramel, candied orange peel and toasted coconut make this an exceptional wine to contemplate and savor. Wines were blended from the 1984, 1985 and 1986 vintages, each with a minimum twenty years of barrel age. This wine will not change in the bottle, so enjoy now! Only 1100 bottles produced from two special barrels. (375 ml.)
