April 22, 2006
This set comprises of three small lot production vintage ports, bottled entirely for you as members. Two of the three are Single Varietal Vintage Ports, and the third is a hand-crafted blend of three of the four Portuguese varieties. Lagle Family Vineyards, owners of a small Portuguese varietal vineyard in Upper Lake, California, were the growers of the grapes for these distinctive and unique Ports. Only 5.2 tons were hand-picked at optimum maturity on October 14th and 24th, 2003, and they were bottled on March 23, 2006 after spending 2½ years in small oak cooperage. These wines embody the youth and structure of young vintage ports, and will show similarities and differences for you to compare and contrast. You may enjoy them now, or lay them down for several decades while they soften and mature. Descriptions will change through the years as the wines acquire that quintessential bottle bouquet.
2003 Tinta Cao Port:
The aroma is already displaying various intense layers, including the fullness of rich chocolate. The flavors in the mouth shouldn’t disappoint you, as the palette warms to the same chocolate prevalence. Although still young, this is destined to become a dynamic and complex wine. Only 764 bottles available. (750 ml.)
2003 Touriga Port:
This port demonstrates raspberry and dark fruit aromas, with hints of coffee and licorice. Amazing flavors develop in the mouth of ripe blueberry and pepper, finishing with the dryness of fresh blackberry. Crisp flavors and intriguing aromas provide this wine with an engaging and enticing character. Only 924 bottles available. (750 ml.)
