PORTfolio Society release number fourteen is a classic set comprising three special wines that exemplify the Ficklin style; one wine produced exclusively for you, and two selected from our family library. I am proud to offer these limited release wines for you to enjoy, savor and share.
1986 Vintage Port:
Four Portuguese varieties (40% Tinta Madeira, 37% Souzao, 12% Touriga, and 2% Tinta Cao) each from the 1986 harvest, were blended in the spring of 1988 with the intent of producing a true long-lived Vintage Port. Bottled in June 1988 and re-corked in January 2008, twenty years of bottle aging have matured and softened the forward, yet complex fruit of black cherry and ripe raspberry. Hints of menthol, tobacco and tea have developed through the years, and contribute to the structure and aromas. This Vintage Port will continue aging for many years, or if you prefer, you may enjoy it now. Only 800 bottles are being released from our library at this time. (750ml)
Aged 20 Year Tawny Port:
Words cannot easily describe the experience of tasting or sipping a Port like this. Allow yourself to be immersed in the texture and fullness of its entirety; from the satisfying and enticing aromas, the thick, rich subtleties and complexity of flavor, all the way through to savoring the lingering, contemplative finish. Wines were blended from the 1984 through 1988 vintages, each with a minimum twenty years of barrel age. This wine will not change in the bottle, so enjoy now! Only 1200 bottles produced exclusively for PORTfolio Society members from three special barrels. (375 ml.)
Tinta Port- Library Release:
Laid down in the cellar just after bottling in June of 2003, this Port shows the subtleties of aroma and flavor attained with just four years of bottle ageing. Although the flavors won’t develop to the fullness of a true Vintage Port, the maturity and softness that has slowly interwoven allows this limited release to express the vintage-like character that only additional age will allow. Rich with the soft and silky texture of the Tinta Madeira fruit, complexity is enhanced with layers and hints of butterscotch, maple and toffee. With further aging, the wine may need decanting, or if you prefer, it is ready to drink now. Only 860 bottles released at this time. (750 ml.)
